Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes by E. Randolph Richards and Brandon J. O’Brien is a really intriguing read. This not so new read explores the differences in mainstream western culture and mainstream culture during the time of Christ.

Richards and O’Brien write in a very reader friendly style and pull in their own cross-cultural experiences to provide relatable context and examples. They also explore nine different aspects of culture that can affect our interpretation of scripture and provide numerous examples from scripture where our modern western eyes may not be faithfully interpreting scripture based on what was likely mainstream culture during the time of Christ. This was a fascinating read even if I did not agree with every premise posited in this book. This one will find a home for itself in my personal library for a very long time.
