Before taking this position, she worked as a contracted Podcast Producer in 2021 and a freelance writer in 2020 for the BRN.

During her time with the BRN, Macala Mays has produced three different podcast series, including 50 Stories of Transformation (2021-2022), The #LovePASJ Podcast (2022), and Celebrating Cooperative Missions (2023). Through these podcasting opportunities, she has interviewed Peter Yanes, former SBC Executive Director of Asian American Relations and Mobilization; John Cope, Send Network Director for Pennsylvania/South Jersey; Hal Hopkins, NAMB Church Planting Catalyst; Kenton Hunt, PA/SJ Director of Disaster Relief; and Barry Whitworth, BRN Executive Director/Treasurer as well as numerous pastors and ministry leaders across PA/SJ.

Prior to working with the BRN, Macala interned at the State Capitol of Tennessee in the Publications Division under the office of Secretary of State. She also remotely wrote news for TalkErie, a radio station in Erie, Pa., and previously worked as a News Director/Producer for WJET-TV in Erie, Pa.

Macala Mays holds a master of arts in communications from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (EUP) as well as a bachelor of arts in journalism/public relations from EUP. During her graduate years, Macala worked as a Graduate Assistant and helped manage the on-campus radio station. She also served as a managing editor for the university’s newspaper, which led to an interest in music journalism. Over the years, she has interviewed Jon Foreman, lead singer of Switchfoot; country singer Chase Rice, and Jen Ledger, solo artist and drummer for Skillet.

Macala and her husband, Robbie, were married in the Fall of 2021 in Gallatin, Tennessee. Currently, Macala and Robbie live in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, where they attend Big Woods Bible Church and Robbie serves as the Associate Pastor of Campus Ministry. Both Robbie and Macala find great joy in discipling and walking alongside college students at Lock Haven University.

In her spare time, Macala enjoys working out, going to concerts (the louder the better!), hiking, baking, traveling, drinking coffee with friends, doing inductive Bible studies, and reading anything written by Jen Wilkin or a good old-fashioned Nancy Drew mystery!

A Few Fun Facts

PASSION

Macala is passionate about others being heard and receiving the love of Christ with the truth of Christ. She loves pouring into the next generation and walking alongside young women as they pursue Christ or seek God for the first time. She believes music is powerful, Bible literacy is necessary, and good communication goes a long way!

HERO

There is no other who can save the way Jesus saves. Jesus not only laid down his life for Macala (and you, dear reader), but he also took on the full wrath of God. A punishment we deserve, and yet he paid the price. Jesus restores us to our Father and promises eternal life for those who believe in him. There is no other hero like Jesus

HOBBIES

Macala loves a good workout – anything from HITT to yoga – hiking, trying new foods and exploring new places, horseback riding, listening to live music, and binge-watching pretty much any detective/cop show with Robbie.
