The Caring Place volunteers and staff who receive, store, and distribute donations (clothing, food, and goods). The Caring Place, situated in the heart of Allentown, Pa., is a community center dedicated to the development and service of all members of the Lehigh Valley community. Their diverse range of programs and services establishes The Caring Place as a central resource for youth, business partners, entrepreneurs, the elderly, and the most vulnerable populations.

WHAT

Join the Serve Lehigh Valley team for a comprehensive workday at The Caring Place, focused on essential building improvements, organization, and preparation for the upcoming 30th Anniversary event. This is a high-impact, multi-faceted project where every volunteer will contribute to transforming our facility and ensuring the success of a major celebration.

Projects are spread across all floors and range from light to heavy activity:

• Building and Installation: Tasks include new construction, like framing a 7×7 wall and window on the 1st floor, installing linoleum flooring in the back classroom, and assembling mobile shelving for the Food Bank.
• Cleaning and Organization: Deep cleaning, organizing, and decluttering rooms across the basement and 2nd floor, including installing new industrial shelving units and organizing paint and storage areas. This also includes debris hauling and loading.
• Event Setup: Prepare the entire facility for the 30th Anniversary Party. Tasks involve arranging seating and tables, setting up various themed zones (Kids Science Area, Teen Health Area, Photo Booth, Museum Area), preparing cooking and serving stations, and setting up staging, sound, and vendor spaces.

Volunteers will check in upon arrival on Friday and be assigned to a specific team and work zone (e.g., Basement Projects, Construction, Event Setup) with clear, posted instructions, all necessary tools, and a dedicated team leader.
