WALLINGFORD, Pa., (BRN) – In October, a Story Club called Muddy Sneakers began as a part of the afterschool enrichment experience at Stetser Elementary School in the Chester Upland School District, located in Chester, Pennsylvania.

The club meets weekly, offering fifth graders an opportunity to discover their voice, master presentation skills and explore the power of story. The club curriculum is designed to nurture the dreamer, encourage creativity and unlock problem solving. Students read, draw, invent stories and learn from great storytellers of the past and present.

Each participating child is given a Doodle kit, a journal and colored pencils to sketch ideas, write ideas and to dream dreams. The students served are a diverse group of children, who know English as their second language.

Muddy Sneakers, a Story Club, started in October as an outlet for students to engage creatively and learn about present and past story tellers.

The program was created by Pastor Chuck Kieffer of the Foundry Church through their nonprofit outreach ministry Lifewerks. The nonprofit is a need meeting social services agency focused on hunger, literacy and mentoring the next generation.

Muddy Sneakers is the first phase of our targeted digital media program of Lifewerks. In 2024, the program will expand to impact teens and young adults by additional programs.
