Please join us in welcoming Benjamin Elk, the newly appointed interim pastor at South Jersey Baptist Church International (SJBCI) in Pitman, N.J. to the Baptist Resource Network.

Born in Brooklyn, Elk lived most of his life in New Jersey. He studied criminal justice and history at Rutgers University.  After graduation, Elk taught history through Teach for America while earning a master’s degree in history.  His love of education led him to Beloved Community Charter School in Jersey City where he currently serves as school administrator.

Elk’s spiritual journey began when came to know the Lord at age 9. While in college he joined Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) where he met his wife, Sarah Grace, who later introduced him to SJBCI.

While at SJBCI, the couple has served in various capacities. Elk has taught all age groups at SJBCI, from children to adults. In 2020, Elk took up the responsibility of preaching and felt God calling him to serve as interim pastor the following year.

In his free time, Pastor Elk likes to read and watch movies. He also enjoys reading and is always looking to add to his book collection.
