COATESVILLE, Pennsylvania (BRN) – The Baptist Resource Network welcomes Texas native, Avery Sprey, to the BRN family as the new pastor of Light of Life Community Church in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

Sprey and his wife, Danielle, recently completed master of divinity degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where they met. Still newlyweds, the couple married this past July.

Already serving at the church, Sprey will continue his education at Westminster Theological Seminary, in Glenside, Pennsylvania, where he will study systematic theology and apologetics.

But before seminary, Sprey says he was far from God.

“I was entrenched in deep darkness. I was a drug addict, just kind of lost and cut off from the Lord and going down a pretty bad path,” he explained.

But around eight years ago, the Lord sent a “messenger” who shared the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Spirit of God convicted him. He saw nowhere else to go, so he fled to Jesus, said Sprey, who was born in Austin, Texas, and lived in various places throughout Texas’ hill country.

“Little by little, He changed my life,” he said, noting not too long later, he felt called into ministry.

As he focuses on Light of Life Church, Sprey says he hopes to ground the church in the gospel of Jesus Christ–“make that central to everything we do”–and to have “sound church membership practices, where we are protecting the flock and helping us to be in the place where the purity in Christ’s Bride can be protected and where the Word of God may flourish.”

And then, of course, he says they will focus on outreach, however creative it may need to be.

“I am sure the God who knows all will lead us as we pursue to be faithful to His mission,” he affirmed.

Presently, Light of Life has around 30 people meeting in-person and another 30 or so who are meeting virtually. It is a diverse church, both in age and ethnicity, which Sprey says is “really exciting.” The church had an interim pastor for the past five years before Sprey was called to fill the office.

How to pray for the Spreys:

Please pray that they would let the Word of God take root in their hearts and begin to bear fruit. He is thankful to see sincerity and a desire to learn and grow among church members and is praying the Lord of the Harvest would bring forth an abundant harvest in their lives – “as He works, that they would be compelled to step out in faith and share the gospel more and more.”
