WALLINGFORD, Pa., (BRN) – The Foundry Church in Wallingford, Pennsylvania, recently held a Bible giveaway to local AA groups. We successfully connected with individuals who desired both a Life Recovery Bible and 12 Step Journal. We are grateful to the BRN for the evangelism grant that made this possible.
There is a long running story in Delaware County (Delco.) Brokenness is found in every corner. Monthly in Delco there are over 300 AA type recovery meetings. That speaks to the need.
As a church that operates a compassion center (Lifewerks.org), we seek out ways to engage the brokenness and to layer the gospel into our region. One goal from the beginning was to become an essential resource to our neighbors and community, sharing the love of Christ to a hurting world.
Twelve years ago, a church member approached us about hosting an AA meeting. There was a group of government employees who wanted an off-site meeting location.
Found Steps has become a well attended meeting known in our county as a place to find support and hope. That lead to a second weekend group launching called the Good News group.
As successful at meeting needs as these groups are, there was an underlying need that we noticed still needed to be met. There wasn’t a support group for families or teens who were impacted by a family member in recovery. We researched and discovered that there was only one available group meeting in Delco.
Our Bible giveaway this month was designed to lay the ground work to connect families with a Christ centered small group that will meet this fall. Living Free, a family support group, will begin Sept. 8 at the Foundry.
We welcome prayers from our sister churches in the BRN that God would have His way with this new small group. Praying that He would expand the reach of His Kingdom into every region within our convention.
