PHILADELPHIA (BRN) – In 2023, Calvary Christian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, hosted Back to Church Sunday on Sept. 17. Leading up to the special Sunday worship service, the church held a number of outreach events, sponsored by a BRN Evangelism Grant, as a way to encourage their neighbors to join them for church and as a means of sharing the gospel with their community.

On Friday, Sept. 15, Calvary hosted a movie night on the lawn. After the movie Soul was shown, a gospel conversation was held to link the gospel to real life. During the viewing of the movie, guests were served movie concessions.

Saturday, the church invited their neighbors to a community cookout. During the day, guests were provided with cookout food, activities, personal character drawings, music and the preached Word. During the event, Calvary’s Evangelism Team provided gospel conversation and prayer to those in attendance.

The Back to Church Sunday weekend culminated on Sept. 17 with a special Back to Church worship service. After the morning services, eight candidates were baptized on the front lawn. At that time, one person accepted Christ as their personal Savior.

Over the course of the Back to Church Sunday weekend, Calvary estimates that they served 75 people in their community and had 50 gospel conversations.
