PULPIT

SUPPLY

A getting started guide for those interested in serving as or acquiring supply preachers.

Apply for Pulpit Supply Role:

Whether you are a retired pastor, seminary student, or minister between calls, we would love to hear from you! Please consider the requirements and policies below.

1. Requirements and Application:

Whereas each church is autonomous and reserves the right to ask anyone to come and preach, the BRN feels it is important that the supply preachers we endorse have met the necessary qualifications. As such, men who desire to be listed by the BRN as available for pulpit supply must comply with the following requirements:

  • Be a member in good standing of a Southern Baptist church, which is in good standing with the Southern Baptist Convention and the BRN.
  • Affirm and agree to preach messages in accordance with and not contrary to the doctrines described in the Baptist Faith & Message (2000).
  • Fully complete the attached application and questionnaire.
  • Submit a written summary of ministry experience and/or a ministry resume.
  • Provide a written recommendation from Senior Pastor or Chairman of Deacons.
  • Conduct a criminal background check.

Disclaimer:

By completing this form, you give permission to the Baptist Resource Network to share your name and information provided in this application and questionnaire with churches and/or church leaders requesting a Supply Preacher. Providing this information to churches does not guarantee an invitation to preach. Further, the applicant and the church will negotiate compensation for the pulpit supply ministry. The Baptist Resource Network can offer suggestions to the church and the candidate upon request.

2. Policies:

  • The supply preacher will receive notification from the BRN if his application is approved.
  • It is the responsibility of the Supply Preacher to notify the BRN if his availability status has changed.
  • Approved Supply Preachers will remain on the approved list for the year they apply. At the beginning of each year, Supply Preachers must update their status. Their pastor (or deacon chairman in the absence of a pastor) will also need to reaffirm their church’s endorsement of the Supply Preacher in writing at the beginning of each year as well.
  • If any Supply Preacher applicant is not accepted to the Pulpit Supply List, he will be notified by the BRN of his status in writing.
  • If any approved Supply Preacher is later removed from the Pulpit Supply, he will be notified of such action in writing.

“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching” (2 Timothy 4:2).
