Phyllis “Fifi” Matthews, a beacon of laughter and love, was called home on October 9, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on August 10, 1957, in Baltimore, Maryland, Fifi’s journey on earth began, a journey that would touch countless hearts and lives. She transitioned peacefully in Vineland, New Jersey, due to cardiac arrest, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate with those who knew her.

Blessed with a vibrant spirit, Fifi was the embodiment of joy and generosity. Her life was a testament to the Christian values she held dear, and she walked in faith and love, spreading light wherever she went. An alumna of Lower Cape May Regional High School, her dedication to education and personal growth was evident in all her endeavors.

Fifi’s family was the cornerstone of her existence. She is survived by her loving children, Robert Matthews, Edward Matthews, and Chanel (Matthews) Bozarth who will carry forward her legacy of love. Her siblings, Barbara Jo Matthews, Pastor Robert Matthews Jr., who is the pastor at New Growth Church in Rio Grande, New Jersey, and Nanette Simmers Matthews, will continue to honor her memory. Fifi was also blessed with a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply. Last, but not least her special life partner, and love of her life, Fiore A. Mannella.

Her interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. Fifi had a passion for family that was unmatched, and she nurtured relationships with a genuine love for people that transcended all barriers. She had a special nickname for everyone she held dear, creating a sense of belonging and warmth. Her generous spirit was most evident in her cooking, which brought comfort and joy to all who were fortunate to taste her dishes.

Fifi’s singing was a source of inspiration, and her sly giggle and hearty laugh could light up the darkest of rooms. She was a woman who lived her life as a testament to the power of joy and laughter. Funny, loving, and generous, Fifi will be remembered as someone who gave of herself unconditionally.

As we reflect on Fifi’s life, let us be inspired by the words of Mother Teresa, “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” Fifi embodied this sentiment, leaving a trail of happiness wherever she went. Her life encourages us all to live with a generous heart, to love without limits, and to find joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Today, as we celebrate the life of Phyllis “Fifi” Matthews, let us hold onto the memories, the laughter, and the love she shared. Her legacy will continue to motivate and uplift us, reminding us that every day is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Fifi’s spirit will forever be a guiding light, encouraging us to live our lives with the same zeal and compassion that she did. Rest in peace, dear Fifi, until we meet again.
