BRN churches continue to ‘love their neighbors’ through food ministry

COVID-19 has been a ministry opportunity in disguise--connecting BRN churches and the community through hunger ministry.

COVID-19 has opened up new ministry opportunities through hunger ministry. Some BRN churches had hunger ministry prior to COVID-19. For others it is a new way to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of the community. Great Commission Church, First Baptist Church of Crestmont, Zion Church, Gettysburg Baptist, Covenant and East Shore are reaching deep into their communities and building relationships by providing food to those in need.

LaVeta Jones is a community outreach event coordinator, freelance media producer and communication consultant. She has coordinated events with the school district of Philadelphia and elected officials. She also works extensively with the faith-based community and the Philadelphia Police Department and has taught community policing workshops and presented for department press conferences. LaVeta, who earned a bachelor of arts in film and media arts at Temple University, graduated Summa Cum Laude and served as class valedictorian, began working for BRN in 2007, where she has assisted in telling the stories of our BRN churches.
