SUMMARY:Children's Missions Day
DESCRIPTION:WMU’s Children’s Mission Day is September 16\, 2023. It is a day WMU sets aside to involve the children in your church in an active mission project. This year Children’s Mission Day is the same day of Serve Tour Philly\, a partnership with the North American Mission Board\, the Baptist Resource Network\, and Philadelphia churches. On September 15-16 churches across our state will be heading towards Philadelphia for a weekend of service. \nLearn about Serve Tour Philly \n \nOne way your church can help in Serve Tour Philly is through WMU’s Children’s Mission Day. The North American Mission Board has asked if the children of Pennsylvania could provide cards for one of the homeless shelters in Philadelphia. They will be handed out to those in the shelter during the Serve Tour. \nWould you consider asking your children to provide cards to the homeless? Would you ask them to pray for the person who will be receiving the card? Would your church host this Children’s Missions Day project? We hope you will say “yes.” \nThe cards need to be sent by September 7 to: Rev. Gerald Walters 5858 Washington Ave\, Philadelphia\, PA 19143. \nAnother opportunity is to engage your children in a local project in your own community. This year’s community theme is Operation Education. The suggestion for a local community project is to: \n\nServe your local schools through a project that demonstrates the love of God.\nCreate a project that meets the needs of someone who works for your school system or is served by your school.\nCarry out your project and share God’s love with the people you serve.\n\nLearn about WMU’s Children’s Ministry Day \n \nPlease let us know if you are planning to participate in a Children’s Missions Day project by emailing pa.sjwmu@gmail.com. Don’t forget the pictures of your mission activity. \n

SUMMARY:Global Hunger Sunday
DESCRIPTION:The last few years have witnessed world-changing events that have disrupted supply chains and limited access to food for many people. Southern Baptists will\, on Aug. 27\, recognize Global Hunger Sunday to raise support for those in need. \nFor 44 years\, Southern Baptists have been raising funds to combat hunger around the globe. Originally started in 1978 as the World Hunger Fund\, Global Hunger Relief is dedicated to the fight to minimize world hunger and to sharing the gospel of Christ. \nGlobal Hunger Sunday is a great opportunity for churches to promote an offering to support Global Hunger Relief. Send Relief\, the compassion ministry arm of Southern Baptists\, helps to promote and distribute the offering each year. \nSend Relief focuses on five key areas: strengthen communities\, care for refugees\, protect children and families\, fight human trafficking and respond to crisis. The ministry sets up specific funds for these focus areas\, creates funds for specific projects and receives general donations to support compassion ministry efforts around the world. \nGenerosity toward Global Hunger Relief helps respond to crisis by meeting hunger-related needs in various ways. When famine or natural disaster strikes\, gifts to Global Hunger Relief provide resources for missionaries and other ministry partners to give food during those times of crisis. \nEfforts also include projects with a longer focus to offer sustainable solutions to chronic hunger. Missionaries and ministry partners will provide job skills training\, livestock and seed distribution\, clean water\, home reconstruction as well as medical care. \nIn 2021\, Southern Baptists gave $3.5 million through Global Hunger Relief\, and 100 percent of those gifts go toward meeting hunger needs with 20 percent going to needs in North America and 80 going toward international hunger needs. \nAlmost 800 million people around the world live with constant hunger\, and 1 in 6 in North America are undernourished. Southern Baptists are fighting the global hunger crisis through Global Hunger Relief. \nThrough Global Hunger Relief 100% of your donations go toward hunger needs. Nothing is taken out for administrative or promotional costs. \nOnce a year\, churches around the US will host a Global Hunger Sunday. We hope to inform and equip church leaders to emphasize this global crisis and lead their congregations to give to meet these critical needs. \nEstablished in 1978 as the World Hunger Fund\, Global Hunger Relief is an initiative of the Southern Baptist Convention dedicated to combating hunger and sharing the Bread of Life. \nGHR funds are used in Gospel-centered hunger projects that share God’s love in both word and deed. GHR-funded projects meet crisis hunger needs in famine or natural disasters\, but also focus on long-term\, sustainable solutions to end chronic hunger\, such as: \n\nJob skills training\nLivestock and seed distribution\nClean water\nHome reconstruction\nMedical care\nAftercare for human trafficking victims\n\nThrough Global Hunger Relief\, Southern Baptists are helping communities and lives be transformed… for today\, tomorrow\, and forever. \n\n100% of your donation goes directly to meeting hunger needs.\n20% of funds meet needs in North America\n80% of funds meet needs around the world\n\nGHR is a collaborative partnership between seven Southern Baptist organizations: \n\nEthics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC)\nInternational Mission Board (IMB)\nNorth American Mission Board (NAMB)\nBaptist Global Response (BGR)\nWomen’s Missionary Union (WMU)\nLifeWay Christian Resources\nSBC Executive Committee\n\nTo learn more about Global Hunger Relief\, visit globalhungerrelief.org\, and for resources designed to help churches recognize Global Hunger Sunday\, visit here. \nRead more about Global Hunger Sunday and how you can give by visiting the Baptist Press’s website.

SUMMARY:National Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Americans from all walks of life will gather on May 6 to lift up our country in prayer on the National Day of Prayer (NDP). Our nation has endured a year marked by unprecedented challenges\, but we know prayer has carried us through these days and the hand of God will move us into a brighter future. \nThis year marks 70 years since Reverend Billy Graham stood on the capitol steps in February 1952 and called for congress and the president to establish a day of prayer. By April of that year\, President Truman signed the legislation into public law. \nThrough the decades\, the efforts of the National Day of Prayer Task Force have mobilized Americans to observe the National Day of Prayer in all 50 states and in U.S. territories to pray for those who lead and those in need in our nation. \nNDP President Kathy Branzell reminds us of the saying\, “History belongs to the intercessors who believe the future into being.” \nAs we believe and pray in 2021\, our theme echoes our prayers: “LORD pour out Your LOVE\, LIFE\, and LIBERTY.” Once again proclaiming a promise of God in our theme verse\, 2 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV\, “Now the Lord is the Spirit\, and where the Spirit of the Lord is\, there is liberty.” \n“It is our prayer today and throughout 2021 that the Spirit of the Lord would pour out and pour through us across America\,” said Kathy Branzell. “We pray to see the Lord fill our lives\, families\, churches\, workplace\, education\, military\, government\, arts\, entertainment and media\, with biblical\, not cultural\, not worldly\, but Spirit-empowered\, Spirit-filled LOVE\, LIFE and LIBERTY as designed and defined by our Creator and Savior.” \nThese prayers are lifted up across the country through the efforts of our tens of thousands of volunteers who lead their communities to organize over 60\,000 local events on the National Day of Prayer in the past. Last year\, gatherings pivoted to virtual formats to comply with health guidelines. We learned that moving to pivot means moving to more prayer and in 2020 we were able to engage with more people than ever before\, reaching into homes and hearts through tv\, radio\, and internet broadcasts. \nThis year our volunteer coordinators are preparing for a variety of events\, both virtual\, and in-person and events in creative formats such as prayer flights\, prayer drives\, television broadcasts\, and more. No matter the format\, there will be prayer from sunrise in Maine to sunset in the Pacific islands on the National Day of Prayer!

SUMMARY:Racial Reconciliation Sunday
DESCRIPTION:“For he is our peace\, who made both groups one and tore down the dividing wall of hostility. In his flesh\, he made of no effect the law consisting of commands and expressed in regulations\, so that he might create in himself one new man from the two\, resulting in peace. He did this so that he might reconcile both to God in one body through the cross by which he put the hostility to death” (Ephesians 2:14-16 CSB). \n\nWe are committed to upholding the human dignity of every individual and advancing the cause of racial reconciliation. The gospel\, at its core\, is a message of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:18-21)\, in which we are called to love one another (1 John 4:20-21) since “Christ is all and in all” (Col. 3:11).

SUMMARY:Mission Dignity Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Since 1918\, GuideStone Financial Resources has been on a “Mission” to provide “Dignity” to retired Southern Baptist ministers\, workers and their widows. These are men and women who have faithfully served God’s people and now find themselves struggling to meet even basic needs. Many served small\, rural churches that paid only modest salaries and couldn’t afford to contribute to their pastors’ retirement. Often\, these loyal soldiers of the cross had to work extra jobs just to make ends meet. \nMission:Dignity currently helps almost 1\,800 people with extra money needed for housing\, food and vital medications. It has also ensured a well-deserved dignity\, independence and\, often\, the ability to continue serving. \nTo promote Mission:Dignity Sunday in your church\, download videos\, ads\, sermon guides and more here. \nView video interview with Mission:Dignity’s Kyle Scott\, operations manager at GuideStone Financial Services: \n

SUMMARY:National Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:The National Day of Prayer exists to mobilize unified public prayer for America. \nTURN TO GOD IN PRAYER\nThe National Day of Prayer is observed annually on the first Thursday in May. This day of observance\, designated by the United States Congress\, asks people “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.” The modern law formalizing the annual National Day of Prayer observance was enacted in 1952\, and each year since\, the President of the United States has signed a proclamation encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. \nPRAY THROUGHOUT THE DAY\nThis year’s National Day of Prayer will be observed on May 7\, and the theme verse is Habakkuk 2:14: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” However\, due to events around the world\, we will not gather in churches or town squares to pray. Instead\, we are encouraging individuals to pray throughout the day and to invite others to join with them online so that we may fill the earth with prayers of hope. \n#NATIONALDAYOFPRAYER\nWe ask that you post your written prayer by text or video on your own social media site with the hashtag #NationalDayofPrayer and join the prayer movement this year as we petition God to move in mighty ways across our communities\, our country\, and our world. \nAs a church\, you can make short prayer videos from key community leaders\, pastors\, and national leaders to support each area of emphasis and post these prayer videos at different times throughout the day. \nDownload social media graphics. \nSchedule for Thursday\, May 7:\n9:00 am – Pray for your community and neighbors.\n10:00 am – Pray for churches and their impact to share the Gospel.\n11:00 am – Pray for those that are vulnerable and those that have lost loved ones due to COVID-19.\nNoon – Pray for businesses and those that have lost their jobs.\n1:00 pm – Pray for teachers\, schools\, students\, and parents.\n2:00 pm – Pray for those serving in the military.\n3:00 pm – Pray for healthcare workers\, first responders\, and those in the service industry.\n4:00 pm – Pray for city leaders and state officials.\n5:00 pm – Pray for the President and national leaders.\n6:00 pm – Pray for a movement of God across our country and around the world.\n7:00 pm – Join with others across the country on your front porch and sing “Amazing Grace.” \nFinally\, we invite everyone to conclude the day with the National Day of Prayer Broadcast: Pray God’s Glory across the Earth\, which will be presented from 8:00pm to 10:00pm EST on GodTV\, Daystar\, Facebook Live\, and additional outlets. \nSOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION Prayer Opportunities:\n  \n \nSBC President J.D. Greear offers tips for fasting as well as prayer points in the article\, A call to a day of fasting and prayer. \nThe Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention also has developed a prayer guide\, urging participants to pray for the Seven Centers of Influence on the National Day of Prayer.

SUMMARY:Children's Mission Day
DESCRIPTION:Join thousands of kids across the country in hands-on ministry in your community for Children’s Missions Day! WMU invites all children in grades 1–6 to participate on Saturday\, February 15\, 2020. (Note: Children’s Missions Day can be held any day of the year!) \nFrom feeding hungry people to visiting shut-ins\, boys and girls follow God’s command to “put your love into action” (1 John 3:18). Church groups create projects that meet needs in their own communities. WMU created Children’s Missions Day to move children out of their churches and into their communities to do missions. The first Children’s Missions Day was in 2008. Since then\, thousands of people have taken part in this special day. \n*You may have noticed we’ve recently changed the name of this event from Children’s Ministry Day to Children’s Missions Day. Don’t worry — this is not a typo! We’ve put plenty of thought and prayer into this change. Follow this link to read a little more about the difference between ministry and missions. \nIf you have comments or questions about Children’s Missions Day\, please email WMU President Theresa Krieg at Theresabkrieg@gmail.com or children@wmu.org. We look forward to helping your kids do hands-on ministry! \nDownloadable Resources:\nChildren’s Missions Day 2020 flyer \nChildren’s Missions Day 2020 press release \nChildren’s Missions Day 2020 clip art \nChildren’s Missions Day Customizable Certificate \nOrder More Resources (Badge\, Promotional Kit)
