SUMMARY:Virtual Training Institute: Walking with the Wounded\, Caring for Those Impacted by Trauma
DESCRIPTION:About this Virtual Event:\nThe Virtual Training Institute is a resource of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). These free webinars are part of an ongoing series designed to provide valuable continuing education on topics related to Abuse Prevention and Response. The goal is to strengthen the safeguarding efforts of ministries to protect the vulnerable. Each session features instruction from an industry expert and a live Q&A session with the presenter. All ministry leaders are invited to join the conversation on these important topics\, informed by real issues ministry leaders face today. \nOverview of this Course: \nTrauma is one of the most pressing issues of our day\, touching lives in both obvious and hidden ways. Yet many of us feel unprepared to respond with both wisdom and compassion. What exactly is trauma? Written to equip pastors\, ministry leaders\, and everyday helpers\, this resource blends biblical foundations with clinical understanding to help the church better recognize and respond to trauma. Trauma can cloud the mind\, weigh down the body\, and entangle the soul. In the face of such struggles\, Eliza offers both clarity and encouragement—helping us demystify trauma and showing us how to walk alongside others with the hope of Christ. \nWho’s Invited?\nAny ministry leader who is seeking to learn more about child safety or trauma care. \nDate/Time:\nApril 16\, 2-3:30 p.m. EST \nLocation:\nOnline (Access webinar link by registering) \nPresenter:\nEliza Huie\, Director of Counseling at McLean Bible Church in Vienna\, Virginia. \nEliza Huie is a licensed clinical professional counselor and serves as the Director of Counseling at McLean Bible Church in Vienna\, Virginia. SUMMARY:Forces for Good Summit
DESCRIPTION:About this Event:\nChristians are called by God to be forces for good in our broken world. In Matthew 5\, Jesus tells us to “let your light shine before others\, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven” (Matt 5:16 CSB).  A culture of goodness flows from our churches when each of us faithfully live out this calling in light of the hope we have in the gospel. \nWe must live out this God-given calling in every area of ministry – even in areas like: \nGovernance\, Financial Policies\, Technology\, Security Measures\, Risk Management\, Abuse Prevention Measures\, Leadership\, People Management\, and Insurance Policies. Intentional pursuit of Christ-honoring practices in these often overlooked areas of ministry supports\, enables\, and steward the work of the church\, ultimately leading to human flourishing as intended by God. \nBut what does it mean to be a force for good in these areas? How do we support and contribute to a culture of goodness in our churches that makes them bright lights to our watching world? \nJoin this gathering of executive and denominational leaders focused around organizational health and the role of holistic stewardship in making our churches and Christian ministries forces for good in our world. As we answer God’s call as Christians to be lights to the world\, we must consider how the leadership and administration of our ministries shape culture and how that culture impacts the brightness of our light. \nDon’t miss this full day summit with leaders from denominations\, associations\, and networks working together with industry leaders to innovate how to be forces for good in all aspects of our churches and organizations. \nWho’s Invited?\nPastors\, executive pastors\, children and youth directors and anyone that serves NextGen. \nDate/Time:\nFebruary 24\, 6:00 p.m. – February 25\, 2026 8:30 p.m. CST \nLocation:\nAll sessions to take place on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in the Ray I. SUMMARY:SBC Annual Meeting and Pastors' Conference
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 SBC Annual Meeting and Pastors’ Conference are scheduled for June 11-14\, 2023\, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans* on the bank of the Mississippi River and Port of New Orleans. Hotel reservations open in October 2022. With preparations underway\, leaders are promising it to be a gathering that accomplishes all the necessary business with a healthy dose of laissez les bons temps rouler (“let the good times roll”). \nSBC Annual Meeting website \nSBC Pastor’s Conference website \nAbout the 2023 Meeting\n“I couldn’t be more excited to help show off the Kingdom work happening in the New Orleans metro area\,” said Jay Adkins\, lead pastor of First Baptist Church in Westwego and chair of the local arrangements committee. “All the history\, music\, art\, food and good times are waiting. So are the souls of those my brothers and sisters will engage with the Gospel for those days in June of 2023. Please be praying now for fertile ground as you look forward to joining us in the ‘northernmost Caribbean city.’ \nA Visit NOLA website provides messengers and guests information on activities\, restaurants and family entertainment options as well as missions and ministry opportunities. It also includes background on the city and a welcome from Jamie Dew\, president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. \nFred Luter’s election to become the Convention’s first Black president marked the historic 2012 New Orleans annual meeting\, the last time Southern Baptists gathered there. Luter is in his 37th year as pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans. \nDew joined other Baptist leaders in expressing his excitement for next year’s gathering. \n“NOBTS is thrilled to welcome Southern Baptists to our great city in 2023\,” he said. “We want to encourage Southern Baptists to come early or stay late to take in the rich food and culture of New Orleans. We can’t wait to have you here with us and show you all God is doing on our campus and in our city.” \n“We’re expecting 10\,000-12\,000 messengers in New Orleans next year and possibly over 15\,000 in total attendance\,” said Jonathan Howe\, EC vice president for Communications. “The original selection of Charlotte reflected the annual meeting attendance at the time. The change to New Orleans simply reflects the current math.” \nHowe\, a Louisiana native\, said “The Road to New Orleans” will premiere in January. The 20-part video series will provide greater insights into the annual meeting’s setting as it did in 2021 with “The Road to Nashville” and this year’s “The Road to Anaheim.” \nLocal Baptist efforts in preparation won’t slow down\, Adkins said. \n“[Executive Director] Jack Hunter and [business manager] Alex Brian are hard at work organizing our New Orleans Baptist Association of Churches (NOBA) to be ready to help host next year’s convention\,” he said. “We are looking forward to sharing about our five medical clinics and our numerous local ministry and mission sites.” \n*Executive Committee members voted April 28 to move the 2023 Annual Meeting from Charlotte to New Orleans due to the growth in attendance of recent gatherings.

SUMMARY:Global Hunger Sunday
DESCRIPTION:The last few years have witnessed world-changing events that have disrupted supply chains and limited access to food for many people. Southern Baptists will\, on Aug. 28\, recognize Global Hunger Sunday to raise support for those in need. \nFor 44 years\, Southern Baptists have been raising funds to combat hunger around the globe. Originally started in 1978 as the World Hunger Fund\, Global Hunger Relief is dedicated to the fight to minimize world hunger and to sharing the gospel of Christ. \nGlobal Hunger Sunday is a great opportunity for churches to promote an offering to support Global Hunger Relief. Send Relief\, the compassion ministry arm of Southern Baptists\, helps to promote and distribute the offering each year. \nSend Relief focuses on five key areas: strengthen communities\, care for refugees\, protect children and families\, fight human trafficking and respond to crisis. The ministry sets up specific funds for these focus areas\, creates funds for specific projects and receives general donations to support compassion ministry efforts around the world. \nGenerosity toward Global Hunger Relief helps respond to crisis by meeting hunger-related needs in various ways. When famine or natural disaster strikes\, gifts to Global Hunger Relief provide resources for missionaries and other ministry partners to give food during those times of crisis. \nEfforts also include projects with a longer focus to offer sustainable solutions to chronic hunger. Missionaries and ministry partners will provide job skills training\, livestock and seed distribution\, clean water\, home reconstruction as well as medical care. \nIn 2021\, Southern Baptists gave $3.5 million through Global Hunger Relief\, and 100 percent of those gifts go toward meeting hunger needs with 20 percent going to needs in North America and 80 going toward international hunger needs. \nTo learn more about Global Hunger Relief\, visit globalhungerrelief.org\, and for resources designed to help churches recognize Global Hunger Sunday\, visit here. \nRead more about Global Hunger Sunday and how you can give by visiting the Baptist Press’s website.

SUMMARY:SBC Advance: An online ministry update
DESCRIPTION:While the 2020 SBC Annual Meeting has been canceled for the first time since 1945\, Southern Baptists will still be provided with an opportunity to hear from the entities of the Southern Baptist Convention through an online event June 2 hosted by the SBC Executive Committee. \nSBC Advance\, a two-hour online event\, is not designed to be a substitute for the annual meeting\, but will provide ministry updates from and interviews with all SBC entity and auxiliary heads\, as well as SBC President J.D. Greear. The event will be livestreamed at SBCadvance.com starting at 3 p.m. EDT Tuesday\, June 2\, 2020. \n“SBC Advance is about telling the story of what God is doing through our churches and the work we are doing together regionally\, statewide\, nationally and internationally\,” said SBC EC president and CEO Ronnie Floyd. “This online gathering will not just be informational\, but inspirational for all Southern Baptists. It will also lead us to have a greater commitment and sharper focus on sharing the Good News of Jesus with the whole world. This online experience is for all Southern Baptist laypeople\, pastors\, church staff members\, church leaders\, denominational employees and missionaries here in America and across the world.” \nGreear will provide a presidential update during the event as well. \n“Southern Baptists have always united around the need to see people come to saving faith in Jesus\,” Greear said. “While we may be apart right now\, SBC Advance will allow us to hear about the great things God is doing and will call us to seek His face for the future. While the times are challenging\, this event will remind us of who we are: a convention of more than 47\,500 churches that stand for the Gospel above all and the need to get the message of Jesus Christ to the nations.” \nThe 2020 SBC Annual Meeting was scheduled to be held in Orlando June 9-10\, but the COVID-19 global pandemic forced Southern Baptist leaders to cancel the event for the first time since World War II. \nBut while Southern Baptists may not be gathering physically\, SBC Advance will provide the opportunity to gather virtually and remember the fundamental reason for Southern Baptist cooperation — missions. \n“We must not lose connection to one another nor waver in our shared commitment to get the Gospel to the nations\,” IMB president Paul Chitwood said in a statement. “SBC Advance will help us do what we must do: keep our focus on our mission.” \nVideo updates from the entities\, annual reports\, audited financial statements\, and other updated reporting data will be provided at the time of the event.

SUMMARY:SBC Exec Comm to host online prayer gathering on Good Friday
DESCRIPTION:What: A time of focused prayer amid the global COVID-19 pandemic \nWhen: 12 p.m. CDT\, April 10 \nWhere: sbc.net/pray and the SBC Executive Committee Facebook page \nNASHVILLE (BP) — As Southern Baptists navigate the crisis resulting from the COVID-19 global pandemic\, Ronnie Floyd\, president and CEO of the SBC Executive Committee\, has called for a special time of prayer. \nThe SBC Good Friday Online Prayer Gathering will take place at 12 p.m. CDT April 10. While plans are still being finalized\, led by Floyd and other leaders from across the SBC\, the event will be livestreamed at sbc.net/pray and on the SBC Executive Committee’s Facebook page. \nThe format will include times of Scripture reading and focused prayer to address specific needs related to the pandemic\, according to Floyd\, who is inviting and encouraging all Southern Baptists to participate. \n“We have never been here before\,” Floyd said. “Our prayers need to match these challenges. Gather friends and families everywhere and let’s talk to God about where we are. We need God to intervene miraculously. Together we must pray and be on mission with God.” \nFloyd said the timing is critical. As the pandemic has prompted great uncertainty and anxiety throughout the United States and the entire world\, Easter weekend provides an extraordinary opportunity to share the Gospel. \n“We believe the work of our Southern Baptist churches across America\, as well as what we do together across the entire world\, provides a great footprint of God’s work throughout the regions and states in America and across the globe\,” Floyd said. “Instead of coming together to hear someone preach or sing\, we are coming together to pray in this major crisis as we face Easter weekend with hope.” \nThe full list of participants joining the Floyds for the event include: \n— Julio Arriola\, executive director of Hispanic relations and mobilization for the SBC Executive Committee \n— Marshal Ausbery\, SBC first vice president and senior pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Fairfax Station\, Va. \n— Jacob Boss\, overseas worker in Europe \n— Paul Chitwood\, president of the International Mission Board \n— Kevin Ezell\, president of the North American Mission Board \n— Donna Gaines\, pastor’s wife and founder and president of ARISE2Read in Memphis\, Tenn. \n— Steve Gaines\, senior pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova\, Tenn.\, and former SBC president \n— J.D. SUMMARY:COVID-19 Call to Prayer
DESCRIPTION:NASHVILLE (BP) — Southern Baptist Convention President J.D. Greear and the SBC Great Commission Council (GCC) are calling all Southern Baptists throughout more than 47\,500 churches “to commit to a dedicated time of prayer this Sunday\, March 15\, 2020.” \nIn response to the World Health Organization declaring the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak to be a global pandemic\, Greear and the GCC\, which is composed of the heads of the convention’s national entities\, issued the following: \nDay of Prayer for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Global Pandemic\nSunday\, March 15\, 2020\nIn light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic\, we are asking all Southern Baptists and our 47\,500+ churches of the Southern Baptist Convention to commit to a dedicated time of prayer this Sunday\, March 15\, 2020\, to seek the Lord in unity about these matters: \n1. Ask God\, in His mercy\, to stop this pandemic and save lives — not only in our communities but around the world\, particularly in places that are unequipped medically to deal with the virus. (Isaiah 59:1-2) \n2. Pray for President Donald Trump and other government leaders — international\, federal\, state\, and local — to have the wisdom to direct us in the best courses of action for prevention and care. (Romans 13:1–4) \n3. Scripture says: Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts. Pray that the Lord will give us wisdom in this moment of fear as the foundations of what we know are shaken\, that others would realize how fragile life is and how real eternity is\, and they would see their need to turn to God. (Psalm 90:12) \n4. Ask God to protect our missionaries and their families around the globe\, using this global crisis to advance His Good News to the whole world. SUMMARY:SBC annual meeting registration opens
DESCRIPTION:Each church should send the maximum number of messengers allowed to the 2020 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Orlando in June\, SBC Executive Committee president Ronnie Floyd told Baptist Press Jan. 14. \n“I want to encourage every Southern Baptist church to send messengers to our 2020 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Orlando\, Fla.\, on June 9-10\,” Floyd said in advance of the opening of online registration Feb. 1 at sbcannualmeeting.net. \n“I am calling upon our pastors and church leaders from our churches to do all they can to bring their full contingent of messengers to Orlando\,” Floyd said. “This will be a historic convention that casts a big vision for our future together. \n“I deeply believe the more people we can have attend our annual meeting each year\,” he said\, “the more we will be able to mobilize our work together across the world as Southern Baptists.” \nThe meeting\, themed “Gospel Above All. Always\,” has already drawn a higher hotel registration to date than previous meetings\, said William Townes\, SBC EC chief financial officer. He tabulated hotel registration to date for SBC 2020 at 2\,132\, compared to 1\,327 at the comparable time last year for SBC 2019. \n“We are very pleased that current hotel bookings are far outpacing the prior year\,” Townes told BP Monday (Jan. 13). “Based on these strong reservation [numbers]\, we anticipate we will have between 11\,000 and 13\,000 church messengers represented with more than 15\,000 attendees in total.” \nEach church is allowed a minimum of two messengers\, with other criteria determining an allowed messenger count as high 12 per church. \nHotel rooms are still available at sbcannualmeeting.net for the meeting at the west concourse of the Orange County Convention Center. \nWatch Floyd’s video invitation to SBC 2020:
