Lorie Smith has some things in common with cake artist, Jack Phillips. Jack was targeted by the same Colorado state entity that is now violating Lorie’s rights. Colorado officials are now using the same law they used to go after Jack to threaten Lorie’s work as a web designer. Lorie’s business, 303 Creative, creates websites for her clients. Like Jack, Lorie serves everyone. She just cannot express all messages because of her deeply held religious convictions. But because of the law, Lorie could be punished simply for offering to create wedding websites consistent with her beliefs.

With the help of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), Lorie challenged the law in court. Unfortunately, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit ruled that the State of Colorado can force her to design and publish websites promoting messages that violate her religious beliefs. There is also a “gag” provision that prohibits Lorie from explaining on her company’s website what content she can create consistent with her beliefs.

This is obviously censorship and a violation of Lorie’s First Amendment rights. The government should be a strong defender of free speech, not its biggest threat. That’s why ADF will appeal this decision to the U.S. Supreme Court on Lorie’s behalf. We need to pray for Lorie as she endures this testing of her faith.

Here is how you can pray for Lorie’s case:

Personal

Pray that Lorie is strengthened by God with power, patience, and peace as she goes through the legal process (Colossians 1:11).

Judicial

Pray that the U.S. Supreme Court grants a hearing for Lorie’s case.

Legislative

Pray that Colorado’s “Anti-Discrimination Act” will be legislatively reformed to protect the free speech rights of those who have deeply held religious beliefs (Ephesians 6:18-20).

Cultural

Pray that Christians resist cultural intimidation and continue to speak boldly the truth of the Gospel.

Church

Pray that Lorie receives the support and encouragement she needs from churches locally and nationally.
