WILKES-BARRE, Pa., (BRN) – Restored Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., recently utilized BRN Evangelism Grants for the following projects:

Homeless Ministry:

Restored Church started providing hot meals and bag lunches to the homeless in their city because of a gap that occurred when another organization closed its doors. This has allowed the church to build significant relationships with the homeless and share meals with them. In all of the bagged lunches, Restored includes a gospel track.

Restored Church provides a meal for the homeless in their community; church volunteers engage in conversation with their guests.

Care Portal Partnership:

Restored Church continues to serve at-risk families in their community through a partnership with Care Portal, an organization dedicated to caring for kids and families in crisis.

The church engages a family staying at the Care Portal house by meeting tangible needs. Before they leave, they give the family a gift bag that contains a Bible and a number of other items from the church, then engage them in conversation and offer to pray with them. Roughly, 9 out of 10 people let church volunteers pray with them and 3 out of 10 engage after prayer and volunteers are able to share the gospel.

This is an ongoing ministry that meets with new families each month and continues to work. The most common next step Restored sees people take from this ministry is that they come to the church’s food distribution.

ESL Ministry:

This is an ongoing endeavor to help engage the Spanish speaking population in Restored’s community. The church engages students with conversation and bilingual Bibles to help them learn English. Restored also provides Bibles in Spanish for the English as a Second Language (ESL) students to engage with Scripture. The church also did mock interviews with the Spanish speaking students to help them prepare for interviews in a professional environment.
