HARRISBURG, Pa. (BRN)-National Night Out is an annual campaign focused on community-building and promoting the formatting of police/community partnerships. The intent is to enhance the relationship between law enforcement personnel and neighbors, bringing together the community under positive circumstances. National Night Out (NNO) most often occurs on the first Tuesday in August. East Shore Baptist Church strives to participate in the event each year, and the response from the community always makes the effort worth it.

At this year’s NNO gathering in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, East Shore Baptist Church (along with a few other local churches and organizations) manned tables at George Park to promote their cause. No false advertising or misleading signage was used to appear as if ESBC was “selling” something. Instead, their cause was to share the Gospel to the community through the usage of Evangecubes.

The Evangecube, a six-sided foldable cube depicting the story of man’s separation from sin, Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection, and the acceptance of all who are saved into heaven, is a popular item during NNO. East Shore Baptist Church was able to share the Gospel with their community throughout the night using these Evangecubes, and shared with over 175 children!

The Gospel story was presented by church volunteers as children approached the table, after parent permission was given to share the story of the Evangecube. After seeing the Evangecube used and explained, children were asked to repeat back the core aspects of the Gospel story to earn their own Evangecube to take home. The children were enthralled with the mechanics of how the Evangecube worked, and the adults seemed interested in the story it had to tell as well.

Many God-focused conversations occurred during the span of NNO, and soon East Shore Baptist Church had run out of Evangecubes (a welcome problem, if ever there was one). Along with this, children receiving Evangecubes were also encouraged to attend the church’s community Vacation Bible School, which was scheduled to begin the very next night. Due in part to the success of National Night Out and the Evangecube distribution outreach, this year’s VBS brought in record numbers of children from the community.

The Evangecubes for NNO were purchased with funds received from a BRN evangelism grant.
