SUMMARY:Racial Unity Cohort
DESCRIPTION:A cohort of 12 pastors (African American and Anglo) have gathered for over two years to work on racial reconciliation and racial unity. The long period of gathering together allowed them to develop a culture of trust with one another. Participants admit\, at first\, there was a lot of ignorance and arrogance on all sides\, but ultimately the pastors developed a deep love for one another\, similar to how Jesus Christ loves the church. \nAs a result of the discussions\, there is a new initiative to encourage the partnership of churches from different backgrounds called Mansion Hope\, a joint effort by the pastors to reach the underprivileged community of Strawberry Mansion with the gospel. \nThere are also plans to convene a similar cohort in the western region\, and for new cohorts to be started with the other ethnic groups that make up our big\, beautiful and diverse Baptist Resource Network family. \nPlease Note: These meetings are by invitation only.

DESCRIPTION:Will Mancini leads Denominee as the third organization he has founded since transitioning from pastoral work to full-time church consulting in 2001. In 2004 he started Auxano\, a nonprofit which serves 400 churches yearly in Southern Baptist and other evangelical denominations through onsite consulting\, training and certification of services that include visionary planning\, leadership development and capital campaign design. In 2016 he started Younique\, a company that helps leaders deliver personal visioning and life planning to members and attenders in their churches. He is the author of “God Dreams: 12 Vision Templates for Finding and Focusing Your Church’s Future” and “Church Unique: How Missional Leaders Cast Vision\, Create Culture and Create Movement.” \nThrough Denominee’s work with state conventions and Baptist associations\, “we’re trying to help local churches thrive through biblical network leadership that thrives\,” Mancini told Baptist Press\, by “activating a new imagination for how groupings of churches flourish and how the network brings value to those local churches.” \nThe local church is “a complete local expression of the body of Christ\,” he said. “But we as Southern Baptists have always believed in partnering for the sake of … going beyond what one church can do.” \nMancini said he works as a “strategic outsider\,” his preferred term for a church consultant. His aspiration is for every church to have its own strategic outsider — “someone who brings a strategic viewpoint from an outside objective vantage point … not entangled emotionally with the dynamic inside the organization\, but who brings fresh insight. Each three-year process is customized based on several realities\, including the current state strategy\, the current level of church engagement and the unique needs and opportunities in each region.” \nAlthough Auxano has become somewhat of a network as new churches every year use their vision and discipleship tools\, Mancini said he began to sense God’s direction toward something larger. \n“I don’t want to compete with all of these other preexisting networks of state conventions and local associations\,” he said. “I want to add value to them\, and I want to help them add value to their churches.”

DESCRIPTION:Each church should send the maximum number of messengers allowed to the 2020 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Orlando in June\, SBC Executive Committee president Ronnie Floyd told Baptist Press Jan. 14. \n“I want to encourage every Southern Baptist church to send messengers to our 2020 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Orlando\, Fla.\, on June 9-10\,” Floyd said in advance of the opening of online registration Feb. 1 at sbcannualmeeting.net. \n“I am calling upon our pastors and church leaders from our churches to do all they can to bring their full contingent of messengers to Orlando\,” Floyd said. “This will be a historic convention that casts a big vision for our future together. \n“I deeply believe the more people we can have attend our annual meeting each year\,” he said\, “the more we will be able to mobilize our work together across the world as Southern Baptists.” \nThe meeting\, themed “Gospel Above All. Always\,” has already drawn a higher hotel registration to date than previous meetings\, said William Townes\, SBC EC chief financial officer. He tabulated hotel registration to date for SBC 2020 at 2\,132\, compared to 1\,327 at the comparable time last year for SBC 2019. \n“We are very pleased that current hotel bookings are far outpacing the prior year\,” Townes told BP Monday (Jan. 13). “Based on these strong reservation [numbers]\, we anticipate we will have between 11\,000 and 13\,000 church messengers represented with more than 15\,000 attendees in total.” \nEach church is allowed a minimum of two messengers\, with other criteria determining an allowed messenger count as high 12 per church. \nHotel rooms are still available at sbcannualmeeting.net for the meeting at the west concourse of the Orange County Convention Center. \nWatch Floyd’s video invitation to SBC 2020:

After attending school in New Orleans\, Claude began work as an editor at the Baptist Sunday School Board (now LifeWay) in Nashville\, Tennessee. After a writer cancellation\, he coauthored his first book (“WiseCounsel: Skills for Lay Counseling” with John Drakeford) out of sheer necessity to meet a deadline. He met and began working with Henry Blackaby in 1986. That relationship led to their developing “Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God” which was first released in 1990. The popularity of that book led to opportunities to write others\, first with Blackaby and then with a number of other authors. His special contribution to many of those resources has been his style of interactive writing that engages a learner in understanding and applying truths from a message to his or her life. Greear and the SBC Great Commission Council (GCC) are calling all Southern Baptists throughout more than 47\,500 churches “to commit to a dedicated time of prayer this Sunday\, March 15\, 2020.” \nIn response to the World Health Organization declaring the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak to be a global pandemic\, Greear and the GCC\, which is composed of the heads of the convention’s national entities\, issued the following: \nDay of Prayer for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Global Pandemic\nSunday\, March 15\, 2020\nIn light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic\, we are asking all Southern Baptists and our 47\,500+ churches of the Southern Baptist Convention to commit to a dedicated time of prayer this Sunday\, March 15\, 2020\, to seek the Lord in unity about these matters: \n1.
