SUMMARY:Pivot: Leadership for the Next Chapter
DESCRIPTION:What if this season we’ve been going through is not an interruption but a disruption? What if it’s not a temporary time brought on by circumstances beyond our control\, but rather a transition brought about by the one Who is in control? If it’s a temporary interruption our goal is to get out of it as quickly as possible. If it’s a transitional disruption\, our goal is to get into it as deeply as God desires\, because in times of transition God catalyzes transformation to prepare us for the next chapter. We’ll spend time talking about leading in times of transition and disruption. We’ll ask the question\, “What’s next?” And we’ll give a model for leadership development in the next chapter. \nFeaturing Dan Nold\, lead pastor of Calvary Church\, State College\, Pa. \nPastor Dan has been married to Lynn for over 30 years. As much as he loves the church\, his most significant and enjoyable achievement has been partnering with Lynn to love and develop their four kids and now one kid-in-law: Sarah\, Katy (and her husband\, Josiah)\, Jake and Josh. Dan and Lynn came to State College and Calvary in 1994. Dan earned a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication from Bethel University and a Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary. Currently\, Dan is working on his Doctor of Ministry in Organic Leadership Development. Dan loves to preach\, develop leaders and strategize about the future of the church in the Centre region. Years ago\, Dan read a prayer by A.W. Tozer that he still prays consistently\, “Lord make me a man to whom you can entrust your glory.” That’s Dan’s greatest purpose. “I long to become a man to whom God can entrust his glory—a living display of the gospel of grace—to inflame a passion for Christ in others.” \nRegister

SUMMARY:Send Network Equipping for Multiplication Seminar: Missional Motive
DESCRIPTION:Before talking about the how of missional living\, it is crucial to discuss the why. In this session we will discuss the missionary nature of the church\, as one of the primary motivations for laying a foundation for the church to move in a missional direction. The reality is that the church doesn’t just send missionaries; the church is the missionary. \nFeaturing Brad Brisco:\nBrad is currently the Director of Bivocational Church Planting for the North American Mission Board. He holds a doctorate in the area of missional ecclesiology\, his doctoral thesis was on assisting existing congregations in transitioning in a missional direction. He is the co-author of Missional Essentials\, a twelve-week small group study guide\, The Missional Quest: Becoming a Church of the Long Run\, Next Door As It Is In Heaven\, and Covocational Church Planting. He blogs regularly at missionalchurchnetwork.com. \nRegister \nGo to Seminar \nDownload Flyer

SUMMARY:2021 National Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Americans from all walks of life will gather on May 6 to lift up our country in prayer on the National Day of Prayer (NDP). Our nation has endured a year marked by unprecedented challenges\, but we know prayer has carried us through these days and the hand of God will move us into a brighter future. \nThis year marks 70 years since Reverend Billy Graham stood on the capitol steps in February 1952 and called for congress and the president to establish a day of prayer. By April of that year\, President Truman signed the legislation into public law. \nThrough the decades\, the efforts of the National Day of Prayer Task Force have mobilized Americans to observe the National Day of Prayer in all 50 states and in U.S. territories to pray for those who lead and those in need in our nation. \nNDP President Kathy Branzell reminds us of the saying\, “History belongs to the intercessors who believe the future into being.” \nAs we believe and pray in 2021\, our theme echoes our prayers: “LORD pour out Your LOVE\, LIFE\, and LIBERTY.” Once again proclaiming a promise of God in our theme verse\, 2 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV\, “Now the Lord is the Spirit\, and where the Spirit of the Lord is\, there is liberty.” \n“It is our prayer today and throughout 2021 that the Spirit of the Lord would pour out and pour through us across America\,” said Kathy Branzell. “We pray to see the Lord fill our lives\, families\, churches\, workplace\, education\, military\, government\, arts\, entertainment and media\, with biblical\, not cultural\, not worldly\, but Spirit-empowered\, Spirit-filled LOVE\, LIFE and LIBERTY as designed and defined by our Creator and Savior.” \nThese prayers are lifted up across the country through the efforts of our tens of thousands of volunteers who lead their communities to organize over 60\,000 local events on the National Day of Prayer in the past. Last year\, gatherings pivoted to virtual formats to comply with health guidelines. We learned that moving to pivot means moving to more prayer and in 2020 we were able to engage with more people than ever before\, reaching into homes and hearts through tv\, radio\, and internet broadcasts. \nThis year our volunteer coordinators are preparing for a variety of events\, both virtual\, and in-person and events in creative formats such as prayer flights\, prayer drives\, television broadcasts\, and more. No matter the format\, there will be prayer from sunrise in Maine to sunset in the Pacific islands on the National Day of Prayer! \nDownload the SBC’s National Day of Prayer Prayer Guide. \nNational Day of Prayer promotional resources are available online.

SUMMARY:A Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church
DESCRIPTION:Remember those who are in prison\, as though in prison with them\, and those who are mistreated\, since you also are in the body. (Hebrews 13:3) \nRICHMOND\, Va. (BP) – The International Mission Board is collaborating with Nik Ripken Ministries to raise awareness about current religious persecution through the Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. This SBC-wide initiative will be observed June 6. It is a call for Southern Baptists to increase their awareness of and pray fervently for the global persecuted church. \nIn 2020\, more than 340 million Christians experienced high levels of persecution and discrimination. Also last year\, 4\,761 Christians were killed for faith-related reasons\, and 4\,277 Christians were detained without trial\, arrested\, sentenced or imprisoned. In addition\, 4\,488 churches and Christian buildings were attacked\, according to data from the World Watch List. \n“As our Southern Baptist missionaries take the Gospel to the most difficult to reach peoples and places around the world\, they are witness to the suffering of those who boldly follow Jesus and are constantly confronted by those who persecute the Lord’s church\,” IMB President Paul Chitwood said. “While our hearts break for our brothers and sisters in Christ who endure persecution and even martyrdom\, we often feel powerless to help them. But we aren’t! We serve the One who\, as Job declared\, ‘makes nations great\, and he destroys them; he enlarges nations\, and leads them away.’ \n“When we pray for those who are suffering\, we have access to the One who can sustain them\, comfort them and bring them justice.” \nPersecution of the global church comes most fiercely from within a believer’s own family\, according to John Brady\, the IMB’s vice president for global engagement. However\, many believers are facing intense persecution from opposing religious groups and their governments as well. \nFamilial persecution is evident in the life of Naomi*\, a Deaf widow. COVID-19 forced her to move out of her city in Indonesia back home to a remote island. There\, she converted from Islam to Christianity after working with an IMB Deaf translation team in her former city. Her parents were irate\, and her dad locked her in his home and beat her daily\, trying to get her to abandon her newfound faith. \nBecause of her daily beatings\, she developed serious health complications. As she was being treated in a city six hours away\, her 9-year-old daughter reached out to her mother’s church leaders for prayer. Naomi eventually recovered\, and her daughter has been able to see the Lord work in her mother’s life. \nHowever\, Naomi\, like so many other believers around the world\, still needs prayer. \n“Don’t pray for our persecution to end\,” a missionary reported a national believer saying. “Pray that we will be obedient through our suffering.” \nNik Ripken*\, author of “The Insanity of God” and IMB missionary emeritus\, said the main cause of persecution globally is when individuals profess Christ as Savior. Ripken has spent more than two decades studying global persecution and collecting stories from persecuted believers. \n“If believers and their churches simply pray to God for persecution to end\, the only way for God to answer that type of prayer is to stop people from following Jesus\,” Ripken said. “Rather\, we pray for persecuted believers to remain obedient through their suffering\, and we seek to identify with persecuted believers by sharing our faith in whatever environment we find ourselves.” \nEleanor Witcher\, director of the IMB’s Prayer Office\, believes that one of the primary prayer needs for the persecuted church is discipleship. \n“Pray that the roots of new believers (and believers who are weak in their knowledge of the Word) will quickly grow deep in Scripture as they learn to abide in Christ so that these new believers will stand firm under any persecution they may face\,” Witcher said. \nWitcher emphasized that this need for discipleship\, growth in the Word and increased evangelism is something that all believers\, not just persecuted believers\, must cultivate in their own lives. \nIn praying for the global persecuted church\, “first\, we pray for ourselves that our perspective will be aligned to God’s will and then we pray for our brothers and sisters who are suffering for the glory of Christ\,” Witcher said. \nSouthern Baptists are invited to join in prayer in the weeks leading up to the Day of Prayer. Specifically\, believers can pray for: \n\nthe church to pray faithfully and fervently in accordance with God’s Word and will.\nfollowers of Christ to consistently study and obey Scripture so they are spiritually prepared when persecution comes.\nchurch leaders to boldly proclaim the Gospel in the face of opposition.\nthe persecuted\, that they have the strength to live in the power\, love and sound mind that God alone can provide.\nthose who are brutalized to sense the Lord’s love surrounding them and respond to those who have injured them with grace and dignity.\nthe global church to commit its heart and time in prayer and fasting for the persecuted church.\neach church to keep its focus on the glory of God and growth of His church.\n\nRipken believes that God’s highest purpose in persecution is to call His people to Himself\, to refocus their attention to the suffering of their Lord. \n“When followers of Christ suffer willingly for their Savior\, it gives their faith value\,” he said. “That kind of suffering also increases witness.” \nJoin other believers across the Southern Baptist Convention by committing to pray for the persecuted church. Visit imb.org/persecuted and sign up to receive a free prayer guide. \n*Name changed for security \nMyriah Snyder is senior writer/editor for the IMB.

SUMMARY:SEND Conference
DESCRIPTION:The North American Mission Board (NAMB) and IMB will partner to host a Send Conference that will replace the 2021 Pastors’ Conference in Nashville on June 13-14. \nNAMB president Kevin Ezell said\, “This is a great way for Southern Baptists to come together after such a unique and challenging year. Missions has always unified us. This will kick off our annual meeting in an incredibly positive way.” \nWhat is the Send Conference? \nSend Conference is a two-day gathering of pastors\, families and churches across North America learning and celebrating what it means to be on mission together\, for the sake of the gospel. With specialized tracks for every member of the family\, you’ll gain the tools and connections to become a movement of people—the Church—sending the gospel to a world in need. \nWe can’t do it alone. We need each other. We can\, we must\, live on mission—together—as families\, churches and as Southern Baptists\, if we’re going to see people\, cities and nations redeemed\, restored and healed. \nWe are together on mission. \nRegister

SUMMARY:Mission:Dignity Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Since 1918\, GuideStone Financial Resources has been on a “Mission” to provide “Dignity” to retired Southern Baptist ministers\, workers and their widows. These are men and women who have faithfully served God’s people and now find themselves struggling to meet even basic needs. Many served small\, rural churches that paid only modest salaries and couldn’t afford to contribute to their pastors’ retirement. Often\, these loyal soldiers of the cross had to work extra jobs just to make ends meet. \nMission:Dignity currently helps almost 1\,800 people with extra money needed for housing\, food and vital medications. It has also ensured a well-deserved dignity\, independence and\, often\, the ability to continue serving. \nFind more information and resources here
