DESCRIPTION:About the Training:\nSouthern Baptist Disaster Relief is one of the top disaster response organizations in the world because we are able to quickly deploy well trained and experienced volunteers to the point of need and provide logistical support for them. Before then\, he served as a Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteer since 1996. Kenton has been active in the Lycoming County Long Term Flood Recovery Committee; the Pennsylvania Feeding Taskforce and the New Jersey Mass Feeding Taskforce; the Recovery Committee and the Manual Revision Committee of Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR)\, and PA Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD). Kenton holds a master of divinity degree in church music from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary\, Louisville\, Kentucky\, and a bachelor of church music degree from Shorter College\, Rome\, Georgia. \n\n\nPrerequisite Training:\nDisaster Relief 101 is the prerequisite for this training. SUMMARY:PA/SJ WMU Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:About this Event:\nThe Pennsylvania/South Jersey WMU Annual Meeting is a one-day event that gathers Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) leaders and representatives from across our two-state region as well as those passionate about missions to hear about what God is doing through missions locally and globally. The day will feature keynote speakers and mission-centered breakout sessions designed to encourage and educate on the importance of spreading the Gospel in our local context and to the ends of the earth. The PA/SJ WMU is a chapter of the Woman’s Missionary Union\, an entity of the Southern Baptist Convention. \nFor over 136 years\, Woman’s Missionary Union has helped Southern Baptists fulfill the Great Commission. WMU understands the challenges church leaders face — limited time\, resources\, and volunteers — when trying to mobilize their congregation for missions. But they also believe every church member is mandated by God to obey the Great Commission. \nAt this year’s WMU Annual Meeting\, guests will hear from keynote speaker Connie Dixon\, the 24th president of national WMU. The meeting will also include an International Mission study focusing on Brazil\, highlighting the work of the International Mission Board (IMB.) You’ll also enjoy a Christian spiritual tour of the historic Capitol building\, experiencing firsthand the heart of Pennsylvania’s government. \nWho’s Invited?\nChurch Ambassadors Network is excited to welcome Baptist Resource Network pastors and their spouses. \nDate/Time:\nPlease plan to be at the Capitol on Wednesday\, February 4\,  from 8:30 am until 1:30 pm. SUMMARY:George Liele Church Planting\, Evangelism and Missions Sunday
DESCRIPTION:George Liele Church Planting\, Evangelism and Missions Sunday is an annual Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) event\, planned this year on Sunday\, February 1\,  celebrating African American and Black missionary pioneers\, such as: \n\nGeorge Liele\, who many acknowledge as the first overseas missionary from the United States in 1782.\nLott Carey organized African American missions in the 1800s.\nS.M. Lockridge was a faithful preacher of the gospel in the 20th century.\nSid Smith was one of the first African American Southern Baptist denominational leaders in the modern era.\nFred Luter was elected as the first African American president of the Southern Baptist Convention.\n\nGeorge Liele is widely acknowledged as the first overseas missionary from the United States. He was a formerly enslaved man from Georgia who used his freedom to take the good news to the nations. In 1782\, George and his wife\, Hannah\, and their four children left Savannah and landed in Kingston\, Jamaica. The missionary couple worked hard and faced many trials. By 1814\, there were around 8\,000 Baptists in Jamaica. This number included enslaved\, freedmen and some whites. As a result of Liele’s ministry\, there were over 20\,000 believers in 1832. We want to be sure the legacy of George Liele is remembered and shared. That’s why the IMB developed downloadable resources that you can share with your church\, small groups and friends. You’ll find videos\, a Black Church Missions brochure\, information about George Liele’s life and ministry and a missionary prayer guide.
