SUMMARY:'Building Our Future' Disaster Relief Fundraising Banquet
DESCRIPTION:Disaster Relief is one of the most powerful ministries that BRN churches do together. To accommodate this growing ministry\, we have taken a step of faith to plan a facility to house our ministry assets\, train our people\, and accelerate Kingdom movement. \nAbout the Banquet:\nIn January of 2024\, the Baptist Resource Network’s Disaster Relief began to promote a big\, bold campaign that we call Building Our Future. The purpose of Building Our Future is to engage all of our churches and Disaster Relief volunteers in raising funds to build the BRN Response and Relief Center to: \n\nbe a Northeast U.S. hub for staging materials and supplies for rapid disaster response and relief needs\, thereby supporting communities affected by natural disasters and community crisis\nhouse\, maintain\, and shelter Disaster Relief equipment and assets from the BRN and its partners\ntrain churches and mission teams in compassion ministry and rapid disaster response\, preparing them for designation as a Ready Church\nutilize space for training and mission team lodging\n\nBRN Disaster Relief cannot exist without the personal and material support of BRN churches. So far\, with minimal participation\, we have raised $140\,000\, which gets us almost halfway to building this facility. We also have matching gift commitments of over $75\,000 if the same amount is raised at this banquet. An additional $50\,000 above the matching gifts will help us complete the building. \nIn summary\, our goal for this fundraising banquet is to raise a minimum of $125\,000 in donations to support the development and enhancement of our facility. Your generous contributions will directly impact our ability to serve your community\, PASJ\, and beyond\, and advance our mission for every BRN church to achieve designation as a Ready Church. \nPresenter:\nKenton Hunt\, PA/SJ Director of Disaster Relief\n \nKenton Hunt\, former associate pastor (1989-2001) and pastor (2001-2015) at First Southern Baptist Church\, Williamsport\, Pennsylvania\, has served as the PA/NJ Director of Disaster Relief since Jan. 1\, 2016. Prior to his leadership role\, he served as a Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteer since 1996. \nHe previously served as Disaster Relief Coordinator of the Northeast PA Baptist Association; Recovery Coordinator of the Baptist Convention of PA/SJ; and President of North Central (PA) VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster)\, a coalition of nonprofit organizations that respond to disasters as part of their overall mission. \nHe also vice chaired the Lycoming County Long Term Flood Recovery Committee; and is a member of the Pennsylvania Feeding Taskforce and the New Jersey Mass Feeding Taskforce; the Recovery Committee and the Manual Revision Committee of Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR)\, and chair of the Online Training Work Group for SBDR. He currently is President of PA VOAD. \nKenton holds a Master of Divinity degree in church music from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary\, Louisville\, Kentucky\, and a Bachelor of Church Music degree from Shorter College\, Rome\, Georgia. \nKenton is the recipient of the 2014 National Distinguished Service Award of Southern Baptist Disaster Relief\, and in 2022\, received the Shirley Norman Award\, which is given annually during the PA VOAD conference to a VOAD member who best exhibits her spirit and commitment of service to others and to the advancement of VOAD throughout the Commonwealth of PA. DESCRIPTION:Prayer is essential for God’s people. Where else can we go for help in time of need but to our good\, gracious\, omnipotent\, and omniscient God? \nOur state\, nation\, and world are hurting and we must be in constant prayer on its behalf. We see this call to prayer in Jeremiah 29 where the Lord says\, “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile\, pray to the Lord on its behalf\, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” \nGod’s people are exiles and sojourners in this world\, as we await the new heavens and earth\, but still\, we are called to pray to the Lord on its behalf so that righteousness\, justice\, and goodness increase in our world. \nTo this end\,  PA’s Church Ambassador Network is inviting you to join them as they come together and commemorate the National Day of Prayer by praying\, worshiping\, and reading from God’s Word in the beautiful PA Capitol Rotunda. This will be a wonderful time for believers from around the state to join in prayer for our families\, state\, nation\, and world. \nThis time of prayer will take place Wednesday\, May 7\, at the Harrisburg Capitol Main Rotunda (501 N. 3rd St.\, Harrisburg\, PA) from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Note: The Church Ambassador Network is hosting this event a week later than the official National Day of Prayer date so legislators and staff can join since it’s a session day). \nThis is an incredible opportunity for us to lay our cares and burdens before a loving and powerful God. What a gift to be free to come before Him and trust in His sovereignty! We will gather as a community and body of believers\, united in faith and our shared goal to bring prayer to the Capitol building. \nFollowing the prayer gathering\, pastors are encouraged to join the Church Ambassador Network Team in handing out Bibles to PA legislators. \nREGISTER: \nClick here to register for this event. (This event is free.) \nPARKING INFO: \nStreet parking is usually available on 3rd Street near the steps to the main entrance of the capitol. To pay for parking\, the “ParkMobile” app is recommended. Another parking option is The Harrisburg University Garage. It is located at 326 Market Street and is roughly a 10-minute walk to the capitol entrance. Kingdom keeps our focus on the glory of the King instead of our own fame. Prayer keeps us in a humble posture before our King so that He might direct our steps. SUMMARY:PA/SJ WMU Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Annual WMU Meeting\, “The Joy of Serving\,” will be held on Saturday\, April 5\, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Red Land Baptist Church in New Cumberland\, Pennsylvania.  This will be a condensed gathering as the PA/SJ WMU transition from a November meeting to a spring meeting. \n\n\nWhile at Wrightsdale Baptist Church\, Alta Brandenberger was a GA and Acteen.\nAlta Brandenberger will be this year’s guest speaker.  Alta is a member at Wrightsdale Baptist Church (Peach Bottom\, Pa.) and was a GA and Acteen. She attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary\, receiving her master’s degree in cross-cultural counseling.  She will be going in the near future to serve in the Czech Republic as an IMB Journeyman missionary.  Her passion for missions is evident in her service and testimony. \n\n\n6th-12th grade girls are once again invited to come and experience a day of learning about missions.  WMU is excited to have an event track just for them with topics to help them grow and develop a mission mindset.  There are limited spaces available for the girl’s track. \n\n\nThe cost is $10.00 per person and brunch/lunch will be served. DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL OPS IN SERVICE \n \nFeaturing four biblical essentials for ‘Deacons on Purpose’ as taught by Dr. Ryan Day of Wrightsdale Baptist Church \nAbout the Training:\n \nFeaturing A Deacon on Purpose\, written by Dr. Tony Wolfe \nA healthy deacon body is critical to the overall health of the church. When deacons serve biblically\, they advance the cause of Christ; when they do not\, they hinder it. A Deacon On Purpose outlines four essential commitments every deacon must make to serve Jesus’s church well\, in concert with biblical teaching. 1) Lead by Example. The deacon is the lead servant in the local church. He should strategically leverage relational influence to model faithful Christian living and service in the body of Christ. 2) Serve the People. A deacon who is above the people is below the office. The primary function of the office is to serve Christ’s people with an open heart and open hands. 3) Support the Pastor and Staff. Deacons are an extension of the pastor’s long arm of ministry. The two offices must work in concert with one another if either is to be effective. 4) Protect the Peace. Other than the gospel itself\, unity is the most precious thing a church can possess. Deacons must cultivate and guard peace with careful intentionality. These four purposes are primarily derived from Acts 6:1-7\, a passage widely understood to have laid the foundation for the office of deacon in the local New Testament church. \nPresenter:\nDr. Ryan Day\, Lead Pastor of Wrightsdale Baptist Church\, Peach Bottom\, Pa.\nDR. RYAN DAY\, a native of Westminster\, Maryland\, came to Wrightsdale Baptist Church as Lead Pastor in 2020. Prior to Wrightsdale\, he served at Grace Baptist Church in Hazleton\, Pennysylvania for twenty years. Ryan is a 1998 graduate of Baptist Bible College (now Clarks Summit University) and 2005 graduate of Baptist Bible Seminary. He also holds a doctor of ministry degree from Baptist Bible Seminary. When he’s not ministering at the church\, enjoying time with his family\, or making plans for the next trip to Ocean City\, Maryland\, Ryan enjoys presidential biographies\, the Baltimore Ravens\, and playing guitar in praise and worship settings. He loves Lancaster County and is excited about “Accelerating Kingdom Movement” within the BRN.
