DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL OPS IN SERVICE \nFeaturing four biblical essentials for ‘Deacons on Purpose’ as taught by Dr. Ryan Day of Wrightsdale Baptist Church \nAbout the Training:\n \nFeaturing A Deacon on Purpose\, written by Dr. Tony Wolfe \nA healthy deacon body is critical to the overall health of the church. When deacons serve biblically\, they advance the cause of Christ; when they do not\, they hinder it. A Deacon On Purpose outlines four essential commitments every deacon must make to serve Jesus’s church well\, in concert with biblical teaching. 1) Lead by Example. The deacon is the lead servant in the local church. He should strategically leverage relational influence to model faithful Christian living and service in the body of Christ. 2) Serve the People. A deacon who is above the people is below the office. The primary function of the office is to serve Christ’s people with an open heart and open hands. 3) Support the Pastor and Staff. Deacons are an extension of the pastor’s long arm of ministry. The two offices must work in concert with one another if either is to be effective. 4) Protect the Peace. Other than the gospel itself\, unity is the most precious thing a church can possess. Deacons must cultivate and guard peace with careful intentionality.  These four sessions are primarily derived from Acts 6:1-7\, a passage widely understood to have laid the foundation for the office of deacon in the local New Testament church. \n \nPresenter:\nDr. Ryan Day\, Lead Pastor of Wrightsdale Baptist Church\, Peach Bottom\, Pa.\nDR. RYAN DAY\, a native of Westminster\, Maryland\, came to Wrightsdale Baptist Church as Lead Pastor in 2020. Prior to Wrightsdale\, he served at Grace Baptist Church in Hazleton\, Pennysylvania for twenty years. Ryan is a 1998 graduate of Baptist Bible College (now Clarks Summit University) and 2005 graduate of Baptist Bible Seminary. He also holds a doctor of ministry degree from Baptist Bible Seminary. When he’s not ministering at the church\, enjoying time with his family\, or making plans for the next trip to Ocean City\, Maryland\, Ryan enjoys presidential biographies\, the Baltimore Ravens\, and playing guitar in praise and worship settings. He loves Lancaster County and is excited about “Accelerating Kingdom Movement” within the BRN. DESCRIPTION:Baptist Resource Network churches are invited to serve the Lehigh Valley\, with cities like Bethlehem\, Allentown\, and Easton\, which are among the fastest growing municipalities in Pennsylvania. The BRN is identifying the communities’ most pressing needs in partnership with these churches: First Baptist Church\, Allentown; Iglesia Bautista Hispana\, Easton; Keystone Fellowship; Mission Vida; Riverbend Community Church; and The Vine Calvary Chapel. Projects will go live in March 2026. These projects include opportunities\, such as evangelism\, light construction\, work with immigrants\, mobile grill outreach\, school and community beautification\, and more! \nTo help offset costs of the projects\, we are requesting a $15 donation (or a donation of any amount) for all participants\, except college students and youth/children. DESCRIPTION:Since 1918\, GuideStone Financial Resources has been on a “Mission” to provide “Dignity” to retired Southern Baptist ministers\, workers and their widows. These are men and women who have faithfully served God’s people and now find themselves struggling to meet even basic needs. Many served small\, rural churches that paid only modest salaries and couldn’t afford to contribute to their pastors’ retirement. Often\, these loyal soldiers of the cross had to work extra jobs just to make ends meet. \nMission:Dignity currently helps almost 1\,800 people with extra money needed for housing\, food and vital medications. DESCRIPTION:Send Relief is encouraging Southern Baptists everywhere to join together to meet needs and change lives through serving others across the world on Send Relief Sunday. \nHere are a few quick and easy ideas:\nFor churches: \nCreate care packages for grocery\, delivery and other essential workers. Show kindness by giving employees small bags with healthy snacks\, gift cards and other items. Include a note of thanks from your church. Your church could also consider packing bags in advance and working with the manager of a nearby grocery store to arrange delivery to all of the store’s employees. \nCollect school supplies. Although many school districts are still uncertain about how or whether to return to the classroom this fall\, one certainty is that students will need school supplies. Reach out to local principals and ask which supplies are most needed\, and then start a collection. After packing the supplies in bags\, work with your local schools to determine the best method of delivery. \nBe a prayer warrior. Make lists of people and needs specific to your church’s community\, and spend time praying\, not just for the people or their needs\, but also for God to reveal ways to provide ongoing encouragement and ministry to them. \nFor families: \nSocial distancing may prevent us from offering hugs and other expressions of personal touch or care\, but it doesn’t have to hamper our creativity when it comes to serving. \nGrab a donations box and fill it up. Help your children sort through clothes\, toys\, books and other items that are in good condition. Identify things that could be given to those less fortunate. \nSupport foster and adoptive families. An encouraging card in the mail or a meal delivered to their home can make an impact in the life of foster and adoptive families. For those in your community\, let them know that you are thinking about and praying for them. \nFor your children: \nChildren learn best and feel empowered when they engage in projects on their own. Help them get hands-on\, then stand back as they learn to give back with these ministry ideas. \nCreate thank you cards for medical personnel. Write a note of encouragement or have kids draw pictures for the medical staff at your local hospitals. \nGet crafty. Let your child create items — pasta necklaces\, painted stones\, cookies\, etc. — that they can share with neighbors\, along with a note of encouragement. \nUltimately\, it is God’s lovingkindness that draws men and women to Him (Jeremiah 31:3).
