Since graduating from Liberty University with a degree in broadcast journalism\, he has been anchoring and reporting for television networks\, network affiliates and ministries. Along with his responsibility as associate executive director for the SBC of Virginia\, he is also the vice president of Innovative Faith Resources (a ministry-focused media marketing company) and an adjunct professor of digital media at Liberty University. Before that\, he was the communications director of the North American Mission Board. While at NAMB\, he and his team won two Emmy Awards for the 30-minute weekly missions TV program\, “On Mission Xtra.” \n\nShannon Baker\, BRN Director of Communications; Editor\, BRN United\nShannon Baker\, past president of the Baptist Communicators Association\, previously served as director of communications and editor of BaptistLIFE for the Baptist Convention of Maryland/ Delaware\, where she worked nearly 15 years\, initially as a correspondent when she and her husband Larry moved to Baltimore as North American Mission Board church planters. Earlier\, Shannon was director of public relations at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary after several years of corporate work in management\, technical writing and communications. She has been part of the Baptist Press coverage team for the SBC annual meeting for more than a dozen years. The Spark Conference\, which first premiered in August 2020 and reached over 33\,000 total views on the Spark website\, will return Aug. 12\, 2021. \nFor those who took advantage of the conference in 2020\, the 2021 event will provide a similar schedule and digital format. \nCurrently\, the event will be completely online. Scott Sullivan\, GBMB discipleship catalyst and Spark coordinator\, said the first Spark Conference was born out of a desire to meet needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s online-only layout was the first of its kind hosted by the Georgia Baptist Mission Board. \n“The fully virtual side of the conference is something we will do again in 2021\,” Sullivan said. “We are able to train more people and get the training down into the trenches of the local church where it needs to be when we go fully digital.” \nSullivan said the August 12 premiere will offer a full day of content with multiple keynote and breakout speakers. The theme for this year is “DREAM.” \n“The point of that is to challenge leaders to lead well now\, but spend necessary time learning to be future-tense thinkers\,” Sullivan said. “We want them to not just be overwhelmed with the present but be laying a foundation for future success.” \nTony Evans\, Ben Mandrell\, Charles Lowery\, and David Kinnaman will be the keynote speakers for the conference that will be held completely online. \n“The 2021 speakers will help us ‘understand the times’ (1 Chronicles 12:32) and dream God-sized dreams for the Church moving forward\,” Scott Sullivan\, Georgia Baptist Mission Board Discipleship catalyst and Spark coordinator\, confirmed. \n“We are very excited about providing four of the nation’s top leaders as keynotes for SPARK 2021\,” Sullivan added. \nTony Evans\nBen Mandrell\nCharles Lowery\nDavid Kinnaman\nTony Evans is the founder and senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas\, Texas. He will “bring the pastor’s perspective and will speak to the heart of our leaders\,” Sullivan shared. \nBen Mandrell is the president and CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville\, Tenn. Mandrell is “leading one of the most significant shifts at LifeWay and will speak from a church planter’s mindset\,” Sullivan explained. \nCharles Lowery\, president and CEO of Lowery Institute for Excellence\, Inc.\, a non-profit training and consulting organization\, “will bring humor as he encourages relationships which are very much under attack during the pandemic\,” Sullivan said. \nDavid Kinnaman\, president of Barna Group\, “will share fresh research and best practices as he delivers a state of the church message\,” Sullivan added. \nIn addition to the keynotes\, breakout sessions will include tracks for discipleship\, evangelism\, missions\, and many others to be announced. \nLast year\, the conference premiered on a Friday. In 2021\, the conference is slated to premiere on a Thursday. Sullivan cited evaluations from both GBMB staff and conference attendees as a reason for the change. \n“It came from our team and several dozen pastors in the state when we asked specifically about the day and format\,” Sullivan said. “Thursdays were easier to gather staff or leaders and sit around a computer and watch the premiere.” \nThe August 12 premiere will be free like last year. However\, the content for registrants will only be free until August 31. There will be a digital pass available for purchase – $10 for an individual\, $29 for a church\, and $99 for an association. This pass gives year-long access to all Spark keynotes\, resources\, and breakout sessions. \n“The target audience for the premiere is the leader or leaders of a church\,” Sullivan said. “The larger audience comes when associations or churches host an event centered around the content from Spark.” \nIn 2020\, there were 206 host sites around the world that utilized content from the Spark Conference. As hosts for the event\, the churches and associations were able to use content from Spark weeks and months after the premiere. \nSullivan said the quality of keynotes and breakouts makes the Spark Conference a competitor with similar conferences. SUMMARY:Faith-Based Security and Resilience Learning Series
DESCRIPTION:The Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of Homeland Security (GOHS)\, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security\, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency\, Pennsylvania State Police\, the three Fusion Centers (PaCIC\, WPAHFC\, DVIC) across the Commonwealth\, Faith-based Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (FB-ISAO)\, and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL)\, is offering a quarterly virtual learning series to Faith-based Organizations. This learning series will provide valuable information to religious leaders\, security personnel and members of the houses of worship to enhance security and resilience. \nPlease join us for the second quarterly event on Thursday\, April 7\, 2022\, with a presentation from Supervisory Social Science Research Specialist for the U.S. Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC)\, Mr. Jeffrey McGarry. Mr. McGarry will be providing an overview of statistical research and data gleaned from case studies on targeted violence at faith-based organizations. \nMr. Keith Shores\, Director of Security Operations for the LCBC Church\, will be joining us to speak about Best Security Practices for Houses of Worship. Mr. Shores will discuss the Left of the Bang/ event thinking; staff preparedness and building volunteer security teams; security cameras\, radios\, door access; research; and how to be your own detective. \nAttendees will also receive an update on the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency’s Non-Profit Security Grant Program and some guidance for submitting applications. SUMMARY:IMB Missions College
DESCRIPTION:The International Mission Board (IMB) will host Missions College on Jan. 4-7\, 2023\, near Richmond\, Virginia. \nMissions College is a training event for pastors\, church leaders\, mission trip participants and church members engaged in missions\, or people who are interested in partnering with IMB teams. Missions College centers around 11-hour learning tracks led by missionaries with extensive field experience. Participants will choose one of the following tracks: \n\nFoundations for Mission\nMissions Scope\nCross-Cultural Evangelism and Discipleship\nDisplaced Peoples\nUsing Oral Methods for Discipleship and Leadership Development\nGlobal Cities\nStrategy Coaching (for mission team leaders involved in church planting)\n\nOne of Missions College’s most popular tracks is Cross-Cultural Evangelism and Discipleship. \nCross-Cultural Evangelism and Discipleship: \nThe people we are trying to reach with the gospel have radically different perspectives on the world. Learn about worldview differences and the danger of syncretism to help you evangelize cross-culturally. Practice gospel presentations that can be adapted to different people groups\, and that you can teach to others. Also\, learn about short and long-term discipleship needs and develop a plan for discipling believers in various contexts. Led by field missionaries Joel Williams\, who serves in the Americas\, and Jeremy Hollie\, who serves in Sub-Saharan Africa. \nAlso included at Missions College are breakout sessions and daily worship times led by keynote speakers. \nParticipants will choose three of the following 90-minute breakout sessions. \n\nThe Sending Church\nCulturally Appropriate Gospel Presentations\nIntroduction to Storying\nPartnering from the Backseat: Avoiding Dependency\nShort-term Trips\nEthnodoxology\nPrayer Strategies\nCommunity Health Lessons for Short-term Trips\nGoing to the Nations with IMB\nNext Generation Missions\n\n“We are asking the Lord\, by His grace\, to use the powerful testimonies and deep experiences of our IMB field missionaries to teach and mentor Mission College participants\,” Lloyd Rodgers said. Rodgers serves as a trainer in the Americas. \nParticipants from last year shared how the Lord used the time to show how they can be involved in the missions task: \n“The biggest thing we are going to go back and share is that anyone can come here\, even lay people\, whatever position you have in your church\, you have something you can give. IMB really shows you through the breakout sessions and the classes that there are so many ways to fit in.” \n“Missions College has given me a deeper sense of the message that was given to us in Luke that we should make sure we are spreading the Word and using the tools that God has blessed us with. I’ve learned a lot.” \n“I am so excited to go back and talk about the opportunities there are to share Christ\, the opportunities we have with IMB that we’re learning about. It’s already changed me spiritually.” \nRodgers\, who is one of the event’s organizers\, added the IMB’s intent to ignite a passion for the lost in the hearts of believers. “Our desire is to see God glorified by learning the skills needed to respond cross-culturally to lostness\, the greatest problem in the world. Our prayer is that Missions College will anchor in the heart of each participant the biblical mandate to be steadfastly present among people and places where Jesus is not named or known\,” Rodgers said. \nThe cost for Missions College is $249 per person. She has served in children’s ministry for almost all of that time\, teaching Sunday school\, directing VBS\, planning and coordinating special events\, serving as AWANA Commander\, traveling with kids to summer camp\, and\, as she says\, “cleaning up lots of glitter and crushed goldfish!” \nAs a child\, Buckman attended Mt. Airy Baptist Church with her family for more than 15 years. She made a professions of faith in Christ as a child while at a backyard kids club and was baptized as a young teen. She graduated from the University of Baltimore with a degree in communications and has a Master’s Degree in Children’s and Family Ministry from Bethel Seminary. \nKris and her husband\, Todd\, have two sons\, Ben and Jake.
